Intro

There is nothing sweeter than watching a big brother or sister meet the newest member of the family. Those tiny hands reaching out… the curiosity in their eyes… the way older siblings proudly snuggle their baby — these are some of the most meaningful photographs parents cherish forever.

But photographing siblings with a newborn requires patience, safety, and flexibility above all else. In my Coral Springs studio, I take a safety-first approach that keeps both your baby and your older children comfortable, happy, and relaxed — so the moments we capture feel natural and full of love.

1) Safety First, Always

Newborns are fragile, and toddlers are naturally wiggly — that combination requires careful planning. Every sibling pose I do is designed to be:

  • Fully supported

  • Stable

  • Age-appropriate

  • Baby-led

  • Stress-free for parents

You’ll never see me place your newborn in a position that isn’t 100% safe or secure. If your toddler is too young to hold the baby, we use creative alternatives such as:

  • Baby in a bucket or prop with sibling sitting beside

  • Baby on the beanbag while sibling gently touches or leans in

  • Sibling lying next to baby on soft layers

  • Sibling behind baby, holding baby’s feet or placing a gentle hand

I work slowly, always within arm’s reach, ensuring your newborn is safe at every moment.

2) Letting Siblings Be Themselves

Kids don’t always follow directions — and that’s okay.
Actually… that’s where the magic happens.

Some children are excited and eager to cuddle their baby. Others may be shy, unpredictable, or need time to warm up — especially toddlers learning how to share attention.

My approach:

  • Never force a pose

  • Never rush a child

  • Always keep it playful and light

Sometimes the sweetest moments are the unplanned ones — a soft giggle, a gentle touch, a curious stare. Those are the photos parents treasure for years.

3) Creating a Calm, Fun Experience

Sibling + newborn photos are most successful when kids feel relaxed and safe. In my studio, I create a warm, calm environment with:

  • Soft lighting

  • Cozy, neutral textures

  • Simple props

  • Gentle instructions

  • Lots of encouragement

And for the little ones:

  • “Big helper” jobs

  • Simple games

  • A quick break if needed

  • Patience — always

No pressure, no expectations — simply connection.

4) Quick Sessions, Big Emotions

Sibling shots happen early in the session while children are fresh and cooperative. After their part is done, they’re free to:

  • Play

  • Take a break

  • Go home with dad

  • Sit and watch

  • Snack or unwind

This keeps the environment peaceful for your newborn’s portion of the session.

5) The Moments Parents Love Most

Some of the most-requested sibling poses include:

  • Big sibling kissing baby’s head

  • Lying side by side

  • Holding baby while sitting

  • Hugging baby from behind

  • Hands on the tiny toes

  • Gazing at baby with curiosity

And sometimes the sweetest photo is simply a sibling leaning in, whispering “hi baby.”

These are the images that become framed prints, album covers, and memories that last forever.

If you're dreaming of heartfelt sibling and newborn portraits filled with connection, gentleness, and safety, I’d love to create them for your family.
