Milestone Sessions (3/6/9/12 Months): What Changes to Capture & When

Babies change more in their first year than at any other time in life—and each stage has its own magic. Milestone sessions are the perfect way to preserve those sweet transitions between newborn and toddlerhood. At Day-Dream Photography, I photograph milestone sessions in-studio for babies at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months, and each one highlights a different developmental moment.

Here’s what to expect at each age—and when to book to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

1) 3-Month Milestone: Sweet Expressions & Tummy Time

At three months, babies start showing personality and connection, even if they can’t sit up yet.

🎯 What I capture:

• Big, curious eyes

• First smiles

• Chin-up tummy time

• Wrapped or supported posing

• Minimalistic “tiny details” shots

🗓️ When to book: At 1-2 months of age (Saturday availability is typically 2 months out).

2) 6-Month Milestone: Sitting & Joyful Faces

At six months, most babies can sit with support or independently, making this session full of adorable poses.

🎯 What I capture:

• Sitting up (with or without props)

• Rolled-up little toes

• Wide smiles and giggles

• Chunky arms and legs

• Simple props, baskets, or floordrops

🗓️ When to book: At 4 months to secure the right timeframe.

3) 9-Month Milestone: Movers & Curious Explorers

This is the “in-between” stage—full of expression and movement.

🎯 What I capture:

• Crawling or rocking on all fours

• Pulling up on props

• Interaction with simple toys

• Personality-driven expressions

• Chubby faces and soft rolls

🗓️ When to book: Around 7 months.

4) 12-Month Milestone: First Birthday Session

The big one! Whether you do a cake smash, themed session, or classic portraits, this milestone is all about celebrating the first year.

🎯 What I capture:

• Standing (with or without support)

• Clapping, waving, pointing

• Cute outfits and themed sets

• Cake smash (optional – cake provided by parent)

• Family add-ons if desired

🗓️ When to book: At 9–10 months to secure your preferred date.
